C is for Contest

Are you a writer? Do you want more exposure, as well as a chance to win a few bucks during that endeavor? Writing Contests are a good way to seek both.

There are contests out there for most any genre and writing style in the market today. Most contests that offer a monetary prize to the winner(s) require a small entry fee, where others gifting a smaller prize might be free to enter. There are even some contests that offer critique of your submission by guest editors for an additional fee.

Whether flash fiction is your game or you’re more of a bard, contests are a great way to get your words in front of people. Who knows what doors may be opened as a result of entering?

Look directly above this post for a page of current writing contests. While on that page, scroll to the bottom of the list for a link to further information.

I'm taking part in the A-Z Blogging Challenge, where I will post each letter of the alphabet on the corresponding day in April, except for Sundays, on at least one if not all of my four blogs.  You can see my other blogs in the sidebar - More of Marie Anne.

  1. Clever – how did you know a contest ad would appear above and to the left of your blog?

  2. I've never entered a contest, but I know many writers who do.

  3. I may consider a contest once the Challenge month is over.

  5. I might consider doing writing contests if my luck at YCN doesn't change at some point -- I have been conditioning myself to be productive but have little to show for it financially. Thanks for this post!

  6. It's always great to learn about new things. I've never done a contest for my writing except to win Twilight books (white cover - and I did win) so maybe I should give it a go!!!

Great blog! I stopped in to welcome you to the A to Z challenge! I'm a co-host should have any questions just ask away! I do hope you'll stop by for a visit! We're also having fun on twitter (I'm @jenunedited and we're at #atozchallenge)!

  7. I have entered a couple of writing contests on Helium but it seems to be more about getting your entry in at the right time than how good a writer you are! I may think about entering some contests when this challenge is over.

  8. I've entered a few competitions but sadley never won anything - except an incluson in an inaugural edition of an ezine!

But I do frequently submit flash fiction to regular challenges in the blogosphere... :-)

SueH I refuse to go quietly!

  9. I like entering contests occasionally because they have deadlines and even if I don't win, I know I'll have finished something! I have won a few small ones that gave me confidence when I was starting out.

  10. I have thought about entering a few different contests over the past couple of weeks, but I haven't made up my mind. Entry fees are usually my biggest turn off.

  11. Contests would be cool, but I'm not willing to spend any money on it. I'm here to make money, not spend it. My advertising budget is currently zero too.

  12. Like building up a blog following, you have to remember to promote the contest so people will know about it!
