How Often Should You Blog?

If you ask other bloggers how frequently you should post to your blog, you're likely to get a variety of answers.

I follow most of my readers through my blog roll and I don't have a chance to check all four of my active blogs daily.  If my fellow bloggers post every day, I might miss a few posts here and there unless I'm subscribed by email, so if I apply that same logic to my own blogs, some of my readers might miss my posts if I post too often.

Looking from the other side, not posting often enough makes your blog stale not only to your readers, but to the search engines.  Less quality to a search engine = less quality traffic for advertisers, which extends further to the quality of clicks.

It's a theory that's been discussed many times by professional bloggers and while I'm not sure there's irrefutable proof, I'm a believer.

I've noticed that the adsense clicks that I do get are worth more when I'm posting more regularly.  If I haven't posted in a week or so, the click is considerably less. While I was writing a blog post every day during April for the A-Z Blog Challenge, my clicks were generally worth more than they had been previously.  I got burned out keeping up with four blogs during April and haven't posted much at all this week.  The few clicks I got on two blogs the last two days were for amounts considerably lower.

Proof enough for me.  I don't like posting every day (see first paragraph), but I will be making more of an effort to get at least 2-3 posts in on each of my blogs.

How often do you post to your blog?  Do you see a difference in the dollar value of ad clicks based on the frequency of updates?

  1. I'm with you on the value of the ad clicks versus frequency but also still too new to have it matter much...number wise.

As for the number of posts, I would like to have a 3 day schedule and I'm working on that now...the thing is that I WANT to post more but I know that's because its new and fun and...BUT I have to also make sure my other ventures do not lag...

Thanks for another great post, MA :)

  2. This is a good discussion. I'll have to pay attention to the ad click value vs. post frequency. But in general, 3 posts per week is probably all I'll be able to manage.

  3. I'm thinking that after May, I'll probably post 4-5 times a week. I used to get AdSense checks more regularly, but I'll have to see how it goes with this blog. It's only a few months old right now.

I’m blogging my way back from Z to A, and I’d love for you to read my “T” post: Teacher Appreciation Week.

  4. I think there's a fine line between blogging enough and far too much. When it comes to content, you want it to be relevant, and sometimes posting SO much can detract from that. Is the adsense money better? Sure. But it depends on if you value the money or the site itself.

  5. Some weeks I only post 2-3 times, but I post more often when I have the time.

My main blog gets few Adsense clicks unfortunately, but I do notice that some days I can get 20 clicks worth 1cent each, and others maybe 2 clicks, but worth $3 each. If only I could get 20 clicks worth $3 each...

  6. I post, depending on my schedule every week day or 3 days a week. I like to schedule a week or more of posts at one time.

  7. I post every day but do not have ads.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I wanted to thank you for serving in the military.

  8. My schedule varies from blog to blog. I post more frequently on my pets blog than the others.

Since I haven't monetized any of them, I have no idea whether the frequency of the posts would make any difference.
