How Do You Schedule Time to Write?

If you're a freelance writer, you know it can often be difficult to find time to write.  How do you do it?  Do you just snatch moments of time whenever you can amidst the mayhem, or do you need a scheduled time with no distractions?

Most people probably do better with time set aside for writing and nothing else.  I personally don't do well with a lot of distractions, and early morning is my best time to get anything worthwhile on paper - er, screen.  If I had kids underfoot, I'm not sure I could manage at all.  It's hard enough dealing with the dogs, cats and chickens; if I'm up and down during the day dealing with them, I can pretty much forget about writing anything more than a Twitter or Facebook status update.

Do you need help figuring where to fit time to write into your schedule?

  1. I generally make writing a priority because it is my job, there are days when I am just not motivated, or when the kids or dogs take me away from it. My biggest challenge is balancing writing work and housework, I'd much rather write and earn some money than wash dishes or do laundry.

  2. I have started writing a few articles at night after my folks are in bed. They are elderly, and sometimes I have a million interruptions a day taking care of things. So I changed my schedule to my textbroker and social stuff (and PTRs) during the day. Saves me frustration

  3. I need to set time aside for writing (not just blogging :). I need to start taking myself seriously - dammit!

  4. I think we all need to find a special time during the day for 'alone time' doing something we enjoy. Whether it be writing or whatever. Sometimes easier said than done.
