Back in the days of MySpace, a lovely lady named Alicia started a blogging group she called the GBE (Group Blogging Experience). Each week, Alicia posted a very general topic for participants to blog about. When they’d posted their blogs, they left a link back on Alicia’s post and then she assembled them into a tidy list so that everyone would have easy access to read and comment on other blogs.
Bloggers loved it. Creativity flowed and each week, a single topic would be interpreted and expressed in a remarkable variety of ways. Poems, essays, jokes, songs, vlogs, and interviews were created. Friendships blossomed between members of the GBE. It went from a small group of writers to a tight-knit community of dear friends. And the group grew. Boy, did it grow!
After a time, Alicia knew that she could no longer manage all that the GBE required. It was time. Alicia announced her retirement, and no one felt equipped to fill her very impressive shoes. The GBE was no more.
But now, the band is getting back together. With Alicia’s blessing, Beth has started the GBE 2, a group fashioned after Alicia’s model. Membership is open to everyone. It works like this:
Each Sunday night, Beth will announce the weekly topic, both on her blog and on the GBE 2 Facebook page (GBE 2 on Facebook). After Beth posts the theme of the week, I’ll also post it here for an extra place to link up. Bloggers will then have until the following Saturday night to write and post their blogs, and leave a link as a comment on either of our blogs and/or the fb post. Fellow bloggers can then clickety-click to read and comment on everyone’s weekly posts.
If you’d like to participate (and I hope that you will!), simply add your link with the linky tool at the bottom of the weekly theme post each Sunday evening, starting today, May 22. Check back later tonight for the debut theme post!
Note: You don’t need to link to both blogs; if you link to either my blog or Beth’s it will automatically show up on the other.
